Company History:
It began with a uniquely designed and patented Danish clog, discovered by company founders Mandy Cabot and Peter Kjellerup, in a tiny shop in Denmark in the late 1980s. This husband and wife team, then professional horse trainers, flipped over their discovery of "the perfect barn shoe," and, quite literally, put them through two years of "acid-testing." Mandy and Peter found these shoes to be extraordinarily comfortable, durable, and attractive enough to wear almost anywhere. They were the only shoes they ever wore. Mandy and Peter secured the exclusive rights to the stapled clog product line from Denmark, and "Dansko, Inc." was up and running in 1991. Pairs were shared, new designs designed, new collections developed, the good word spread, and within a few short years Dansko footwear was distributed in over 3500 retail locations-from tack shops to uniform shops, outdoor retailers to specialty boutiques.

Dansko Goes Green!

Our latest consumer brochures and line sheets were both printed on recycled paper with soy-based inks, which are less toxic than traditional printing inks.

Our consumer brochure has an added feature: the paper was produced with wind power, decreasing our dependence on other fuels for energy. By printing on Mohawk Options paper, we have saved:

150 trees
63,987 gallons of water
727 pounds of waste NOT generated
6,489 pounds of solid waste NOT in landfills
87,592,182 BTUs of energy NOT consumed
13,297 pounds of air emissions NOT generated

The folks at Mohawk were so impressed with our brochure that they have selected it for the 2006 Mohawk Wind Power Partnership, a recognition program for corporate print collateral exemplifying the environmental savings from wind power.

With this award, the Mohawk Environmental Management Team would like to officially recognize Dansko’s commitment to the environment with our responsible choice of paper. In addition, Mohawk sales reps are currently using our brochure as printed samples of how fine printing can be done with eco-friendly technologies.
 

2006 Plus Award Winner!

We are proud to announce that Dansko has won the 2006 Plus Award for Design Excellence in the Women’s Comfort category from Footwear Plus Magazine, an industry-leading publication.

Retailers nationwide nominated and voted for their favorite footwear companies to recognize them for overall design excellence for the year. We would like to send out our warmest thanks to our valued retailers for presenting Dansko with this honor, and of course to you, our devoted fans, for your continued loyalty.

Volunteering!

Dansko sent several employees to Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County for a full day of building frames as part of its company-organized volunteer efforts.

As always, Dansko contributed the equivalent of everyone’s salary for the day they volunteered to make an even greater impact for the organization.

Green Scene!

In keeping with our commitment to the environment, Dansko employees keep busy planting trees each year with Stroud Water Research Center and clearing away roadside trash on a quarterly basis with Adopt-a-Highway.

That's not all, for every volunteer hour of every employee, Dansko donates the equivalent of their salaries to help enable these worthy organizations to continue doing their fine work.
